Woman hacked to death

2011-09-02 07:38

A woman was hacked to death, allegedly by her brother, in Soweto early this morning, Gauteng police said.

“At 4am we were called to Zola One because we received a report of a man in a house trying to attack a woman with an axe,” said Warrant Officer Kay Makhubela.

When police arrived, the man was still in the house, trying to exit through a hole he had made in the roof.

“We caught him as he came down, and people who live in the outside room identified him as the woman’s brother,” Makhubela said.

He was arrested on suspicion of murder and would appear in Protea Magistrates Court on Monday.

Makhubela said it was believed that the man had murdered his sister because she had inherited the house from her parents.
