Xmas gifts abroad should be sent now

2010-10-14 11:21

The Post Office today urged its customers who use surface mail to send their Christmas gifts abroad now to ensure they are delivered in time.

“Surface mail is the most cost-effective way of having an item delivered abroad,” said Janras Kotsi, who is in charge of mail business at the SA Post Office.

“All airmail items to other countries can be posted by December 3 – they will be delivered before Christmas.”

Kotsi said surface mail items for Australia, South and North America, the Far East and Asia must be posted by November 1.

The same applied to mail for Great Britain, Europe and the Middle East.

Mail to New Zealand and central Africa – the Ivory Coast, Ghana, Republic of the Congo, Senegal, Cameroon, Nigeria, Gabon, Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, Burundi, and Rwanda – must be posted by November 26.

The November 26 date also applies to countries in southern Africa – Angola, Malawi, Mozambique, Namibia, Zambia and Zimbabwe.

“Thanks to simple road-delivery routes, items to Lesotho, Swaziland and Botswana posted by 10 December will be in time for Christmas.”

Kotsi said items for Tristan da Cunha, Ascension and St Helena needed to be posted no later than November 13.
“No air mail is available to the islands of Tristan da Cunha and St Helena as they have no airstrips.”
