Youths protest over unemployment

Protesting youths blockaded roads in Luka, near Rustenburg, North West today police have said.

Captain Tselane Nkala said a group of 50 youths blocked roads with burning tyres in a protest relating to jobs.

“They have set fire on the railway line and damaged traffic signs,” she said.

“The police are removing the objects on the railway line and clearing the road.”

Nkala said they were complaining that buses transporting workers to Impala Platinum mine passed through their village while they remained unemployed.

She described the situation as tense and said it was being monitored by the police.
