Zamdela residents march against mayor

2013-04-10 13:15

Hundreds of disgruntled residents of Zamdela, outside Sasolburg, Free State, marched to the municipal buildings today, demanding the removal of the mayor.

They were expected to deliver a memorandum highlighting their grievances against mayor Brutus Mahlaku.

The marchers, moving behind two police Nyalas, held hands and sang while they walked. They shouted for onlookers to join the protest.

Numerous police and traffic vehicles were on the scene.

Resident Micheal Selepe Pule said: “We opened a case against the mayor. There is fraud in his department.”

He accused the mayor of refusing to listen to residents, and said: “There is a lot of corruption.”
