Last week, SABC1’s new primetime variety show, Zaziwa, peaked in the audience ratings again as it steadily moves up the charts?–?this time from 11th to sixth place, according to the SA Audience Research Foundation.

This is no stroke of luck, but an indication of how popular the talk show has become. It gives viewers a glimpse into the lives of their favourite celebrities through the music that has influenced and helped shape them.

With her inquisitive mind and easy-going personality, young, beautiful and talented host Pearl Modiadie makes watching Zaziwa a pleasure. She gets celebrities to open up and just be themselves.

“Small person” Thembalethu Ntuli was the featured guest last week and his inspirational take on life left me in awe of the talented, diminutive actor. His larger-than-life attitude saw him choose R Kelly’s The World’s Greatest as a song that best describes him.

Talk about dynamite in a small package. The actor even shed a tear when he spoke about the encouragement he had received from his high school teacher. It struck a chord with me.

A Twitter fan wrote: “I love the fact that Pearl Modiadie sometimes wears Mr Price clothes on her show #Zaziwa. You don’t have to break the bank to look good yaz.”
