Zim VP wants answers on husband’s death

2011-08-24 13:10

Harare – Zimbabwe’s vice president said she didn’t understand why her husband, a powerful ex-general, was unable to escape the house fire that killed him.

Joice Mujuru told the state-run Herald newspaper that she wanted “satisfactory answers” from the investigation into last week’s death of General Solomon Mujuru.

Mujuru suggested that her husband should have been able to escape from the house’s large, low windows.

His death has also raised questions about the battle within longtime President Robert Mugabe’s party over who will succeed the ailing 87-year-old leader.
Mujuru’s powerful military, political and business connections bolstered his wife’s efforts to vie for supremacy.
