President Jacob Zuma will co-chair a South Africa/Mozambique heads of state economic bilateral forum in Pretoria on Friday, the presidency announced today.

The forum focuses on strategic projects between the two countries with the aim of enhancing economic bilateral co-operation.

“It has played a vital role in encouraging cross-border investments between the two countries. In this regard, the birth to strategic mega projects such as Mozal I and II and the Sasol Temane Natural Gas Project gives testimony to this ever growing economic co-operation.”

Zuma will co-chair the forum, founded in 1997, with his counterpart President Armando Guebuza.

The quarterly meetings are attended by ministers and officials of relevant ministries of both countries.

Discussions will mainly centre on how to further strengthen co-operation, especially in the areas of agriculture, health, tourism; trade and investment, water and environment and energy.

Total exports by South Africa to Mozambique last year were valued at more than R13 billion, making Mozambique one of South Africa’s top trading partners on the continent.

South Africa imported more than R3 billion worth of goods from Mozambique.?
