Zuma finds time for all of us – daughter

2012-12-07 09:55

President Jacob Zuma is a man who always finds time for his children despite having a hectic schedule, his daughter Thuthukile has said.

Speaking before Deputy President Kgalema Motlanthe delivered the Jacob Zuma legacy lecture in Potchefstroom in the North West last night, Zuma’s young daughter Thuthukile spoke fondly about the father of 21.

“Even though we are here to honour the contribution made by ubaba to the ANC, we feel it is imperative that we acknowledge and celebrate the contribution made by the ANC to ubaba,” she said.

“The ANC has honestly and truly moulded him into the exceptional human being that he is today. Thus, in celebrating ubaba as a product of the ANC what we are actually doing is celebrating and honouring this great movement,” she said.

She painted a picture of her father as a humble man with quick wit who treated people the same way despite their station in life. She said Zuma was driven by his service to the ANC and the people of South Africa.

“This is one of the main reasons why he literally works himself to the bone. On an ordinary day, he sleeps in the early hours of the morning and is up again by 6am because he dedicates time to the people he is serving despite how taxing it is on him,” she said.

Thuthukile had the audience in stitches when she described Zuma’s response when she asked him why he had so many children.

“Then his answer was: ‘Well, my dear, I am increasing the votes of the ANC’,” she said.

She said she found it odd that people thought “ubaba has so many children because there’s 21 of us. The reality is that ubaba has way more children than just 21, he is literally a father to the entire Zuma clan and many other South Africans.”
