Zuma to attend Afcon opening

2010-01-07 12:41

PRESIDENT Jacob Zuma will attend the Africa Cup of Nations’s

(Afcon) opening ceremony in the capital Luanda, Angola, on Sunday.

The president will be accompanied by Minister in the Presidency

Collins Chabane, the presidency said in a statement today.

During his State visit to Angola last year, Zuma indicated South

Africa’s support and good wishes to Angola on its hosting of Africa’s biggest

soccer tournament.

The visit would also be used to further strengthen relations

between the two countries, forged during the liberation struggle, when Angola

provided sanctuary and solidarity to the governing ANC.
