2011 Band Search

The KZN Department of Arts and Culture, Child of the Light Productions, Pavilion Music and Pavilion Shopping Centre will jointly partner to host the 2011 Band Search.

This event is to assist up and coming bands by providing a platform for them to showcase their talent. 15 Bands get the opportunity to compete for the following package which will be handled by Child of the Light Productions (Ernie Smith) :

• Recording and production of a full 10 song album, produced by Ernie Smith

• Winners will be coached and trained in the art of song production

• Band rehearsing skill

• Professional photo shoot and design art work for the Album

• Airplay on Eastcoast Radio and Gagasi fm

• Radio interviews on both stations

OBJECTIVES

• To create a platform for local up and coming bands to showcase their talent and get exposure.

• To develop and record local bands and give them an opportunity to enter the music industry through professional coaching and mentorship.

• Skills sharing and an advocacy programme for local music.

• Sustainability and promotion of the emerging genres

• Source new creative talent.

CRITERIA

• Target local bands that have not yet recorded (unsigned).

• Bands of all races.

• Genres : Jazz, R & B, Afro Pop, Pop and Gospel.

• Bands that are willing to be mentored in the art of song production.

MECHANICS

• Bands to submit their application/CD demos (if you don’t have demo’s you can only submit the application form via :

3. Drop off box at Pavilion Music, Pavilion Shopping Centre

4. Drop off Pavilion Management Offices

5. Drop off box at Department of Arts and Culture (8th Floor Commercial City, Dr A.B. Xuma Street, Durban)

CLOSING DATE FOR SUBMISSION : 18 NOVEMBER 2011

(NO LATE ENTRIES WILL BE ACCEPTED)

• 5 Bands to play every Friday, starting November 11, November 18 and November 25, starting time 6pm until 9pm.

• Each band has 3 songs to blow the audience away.

• Registration costs R400 per band for admin costs and video (handled by Child of the Light Productions).

• Call backs end of November – 3 chosen bands are called to play again during this period (call backs for second heat do not require to registration fee).

• 2 finalists will play on 2 December 2011 – WINNER TAKES ALL!
