21 injured in taxi crash

A collision on Saturday morning between a minibus taxi and a car left 21 people injured, including a child, who was airlifted to Grey’s Hospital.

Netcare 911 spokesman Chris Botha said the accident occurred on the Edendale Road near Henley Dam and when the paramedics arrived, the scene was chaotic.

“The taxi and a Nissan [Sentra] collided head-on. In the car there was a family of two adults, a mother and a father, and three children.

“An eight-year-old boy sustained serious injuries and we called for the Netcare helicopter with a doctor on board to come and assist with the stabilisation of the patients. The child was airlifted to Grey’s Hospital for further treatment while his mom, dad and the two other children were transported to Grey’s by ambulance,” he said.

Others were taken to various local hospitals.

In a separate incident, ER24 paramedics had to get their hands dirty when they helped motorists who had damaged wheels as a result of a massive pothole on the M25 in Duffs Road, Durban.

Spokesman Derrick Banks said on arrival they found many motorists all changing their wheels.
