3 in court for Thistle murder

2008-04-01 00:00

Three men appeared briefly in the magistrate’s court in Pietermaritzburg yesterday in connection with the murder of Thistle Hotel manager Mark Truter (38) on March 25.

The accused, Wiseman Vusimuzi Ndlovu (29) of France location; Siphelele Peter Ngubo (28), also of France; and Ryder Snothi Ndlovu (21) of Hopewell, were not asked to plead to any charges before magistrate Paul van Dongen.

All three men elected to apply for legal aid and their case was postponed until April 7, pending their applications to the Legal Aid Board.

They were remanded in custody.

They are charged with the murder of Truter, and with robbery of R33 000 cash, a camera and a cellphone.

Police said Truter, one of the oldest known survivors of cystic fibrosis (an illness that affects the breathing and digestive systems), suffocated as a result of being gagged with tape that covered his mouth and nose.

Senior Superintendent Henry Budhram confirmed that Ryder Ndlovu was an employee at the hotel.

A fourth suspect is still being sought for the incident.
