A TOTAL of 49 runs from one over.

A schoolboy from Kimberley hit eight boundaries from one over as part of this amazing score in a match in Queenstown in the Northern Cape last week.

Wiaan van Niekerk of the Hoërskool Noord-Kaap Under 15 cricket team let loose against Queen’s College, scoring 127 not out in a T20 match.

Wiaan gave the bowler his telephone number (4-6-6-6-6-6-6-4), as they say.

The bowler sent down four no balls. After gaining the strike following a single off the first ball, Wiaan hit eight boundaries for 44 runs. Add to this the free hits for the no balls, and the 49 emerges.

Wiaan said he didn’t score off one of the free throws, which was itself a no-ball.

Wiaan’s total was also the winning margin, when Queen’s were restricted to 77 in answer to 204 for five.
