A lot at stake in 3-day clash

2014-11-27 00:00

THERE is much to play for when the KZN Inland cricket team tackle the Durban-based KZN Coastal line-up in the Sunfoil Three-Day Cup match that starts at 9 am at the Maritzburg Oval today.

Inland are mulling over which 11 players to use from their squad and coach Grant Morgan told The Witness yesterday that much will depend on the conditions this morning.

There is the possibility of Inland going in with an extra spinner or seamer, while for Coastal a number of their line-up are set to be players who have turned out for the Dolphins this season.

Explosive batsman Cameron Delport, another top-order batter in Divan van Wyk, quick bowlers Rabian Engelbrecht and Darryn Dupavillon, as well as the experienced Daryn Smit bring much flavour to this match and Inland will welcome the challenge of measuring themselves against this quality of opponent.

Morgan has come hard at his players for not picking up more log points when they were on offer at times this season, as well as letting themselves down during their first innings knocks.

“The players have accepted responsibility and now it is time to perform,” said Morgan. “We have had meetings and put plans in place to make it easier for ourselves in finding ways to reach our goals.”

This is a cross-pool match. Coastal currently lie in fourth place after five matches in Pool A while Inland are in fourth spot in Pool B but have only played three matches.

Inland, who are the SA 50-over and T20 champions at this level, will also face KZN Coastal in a Provincial T20 Challenge match on Sunday at the PMB Oval.
