A rollicking adventure

2008-07-18 00:00

THIS week’s new films in the city are Love Story 2050 and Bank Job at Ster Kinekor, and Journey to the Center of the Earth at CineCentre. Nu Metro has Hancock, The Happening and Get Smart joining its line-up, while College Road Trip also opens at Ster Kinekor.

Journey to the Center of the Earth is directed by Eric Brevig and stars Brendan Fraser and Josh Hutcherson in a rollicking adventure based on Jules Verne’s novel. On an expedition to Iceland, Fraser’s mad professor and his nephew head deep beneath the Earth’s surface — to find that Verne was right after all.

Love Story 2050 is written and directed by Harry Baweja and stars Harman Baweja and Priyanka Chopra in a romance set in the future. Karan (Baweja) is a young, spirited and happy-go-lucky boy who doesn’t follow the rules. Sana (Chopra) is just the opposite. But, of course, they fall in love.

Roger Donaldson directs Bank Job, with Jason Statham and Saffron Burrows. The film is based on a robbery that took place in London in 1971, which was never given much publicity and was the subject of various conspiracy theories. The robbers break into a bank vault, but get more than they bargained for, and find the police, the Establishment, and some very nasty people on their trail. — Arts Editor.
