MATRICS all over the country celebrated as many wrote their final Grade 12 exam yesterday.

With the English composition paper behind them, many pupils have either one exam left or are completely finished with high school.

“It is exciting. A whole new world awaits,” said Raisthorpe Secondary School matriculant Asive Dlanjwa.

Asive said the exam was “very nice” and he was glad to be getting out of the high school routine.

“We have had this routine for the past 12 years and now it is almost gone. I am excited for what lies ahead and the prospect of success,” he said.

Asive is confident about his future as he said he has been accepted to study a BCom at the University of the Free State next year.

“I am super excited.”

With English being Catherine Muyonjo’s favourite subject, she said she was happy it was her second to last exam.

“The paper was fantastic. English is my favourite subject,” she said.

With a smile on her face, Catherine spoke excitedly about her future and the prospect of leaving high school for good.

“I am excited and happy. I could not wait to finish high school. I don’t want to follow a routine.”

In her quest for independence and a bright future, Catherine said she has been accepted at Rhodes University to study social sciences next year.

“That will be my first degree. My second degree will be in teaching,” said Catherine confidently.

In agreement with his friends on a need for independence was Roneeth Bhola.

Roneeth said he was sad to be leaving school but excited to finally attain independence.

“I feel great. I am anticipating university but I will miss school and my teachers.

“I am really looking forward to being independent,” said Roneeth.

With a spot secured at the University of KwaZulu-Natal for a degree in mechanical engineering, Roneeth said he is prepared for the challenges that are yet to come.

“Once a challenge is finished, there will always be another,” said Roneeth.

All three pupils agreed that the final English paper was a decent exam.
