ANC ‘has admitted to Oilgate’

2007-12-19 00:00

Cape Town — Reports that the ANC paid back the R11 million “donation” from Imvume Management in May 2005, amount to “nothing less than” an admission of guilt by the party, the Freedom Front Plus said yesterday.

FF+ minerals and energy spokesman Willie Spies was responding to a revelation in the ANC’s financial report that the ANC repaid the controversial R11-million donation.

In the report, tabled at Polokwane, ANC treasurer-general Mendi Msimang said the donation, by Imvume’s Sandy Majali, was repaid in two instalments.

Spies questioned why the ANC repaid the donation, part of a R15-million payment from state oil company PetroSA, at a time when the ANC was struggling with its finances.

“If there was nothing untoward about the PetroSA advance to Imvume and the subsequent donation to the ANC, why did the ANC find it necessary to repay the donation?” Spies asked.

“… It is now critical that decisive action be taken to bring Imvume Management and its director, Sandi Majali, to justice,” Spies said.
