ANC in KZN swots up on politics ahead of national council

2010-07-31 00:00

THE ANC leadership in KwaZulu Natal will be going to school this weekend.

Party provincial secretary Sihle Zikalala said political classes will be held to mark the start of a programme to prepare for the ANC’s third National General Council (NGC) that takes place in September in KZN.

Zikalala said the political school will deal with discussion documents that will be debated at the NGC.

The documents already in circulation include a paper entitled: Building a National Democratic Society: Strategy and Tactics and the balance of forces in 2010. Another is on the anatomy of organisational decay. It looks at the party’s internal problems and what it plans to do about leadership, renewal, discipline and organisational culture.

The political school which is being held at a conference venue on the South Coast will also focus on issues of poverty and socio-economic development. Zikalala added that the Political School will also analyse the balance of forces in the province and the country with a view to deepen and consolidate the ANC’s strength ahead of the next local government elections.

He said the political classes will not take place in a vacuum.

“We will be engaging the people of the province on policy issues that will be discussed in the NGC,” said Zikalala.
