ANC putts its way to the bank with golf day

2014-05-03 00:00

THE ANC’s Moses Mabhida Region was putting all the way to the bank yesterday, inviting business people to attend a golf day fundraiser at the prestigious Victoria Country Club in Montrose.

Businessmen and women arrived from around the country in their own golf shirts, but were soon sporting ANC-wear on the course. The party was raising funds ahead of its Siyanqoba Rally to be held in Esikhawini, near Empangeni, tomorrow, which is expected to be attended by thousands of people.

ANC regional treasurer Thulani Xulu said 100 golfers from Pietermaritzburg, Durban, Johannesburg and Cape Town had participated.

“It was the ANC fundraiser which will be succeeded by a gala dinner and auction to be attended by Minister Malusi Gigaba, MECs Ina Cronje and Peggy Nkonyeni this evening [last night],” he said.

He said about 50 companies had donated funds to the ANC.

“We will only know exactly how much we were able to raise after the gala dinner,” said Xulu.

Those participating in the golf day are thought to have paid R20 000 each.

Among those spotted at the course yesterday were Pietermaritzburg Chamber of Business president Paris Dlamini, who said he was there in his capacity as an ANC member.

Others included former Bafana Bafana, Golden Arrows and Sundowns coach Khabo Zondo, and former Msunduzi senior manager Kevin Perumal.
