ANCYL: mending fences with IFP

2010-12-20 00:00

The KZN ANC Youth League has invited Inkatha Freedom Party leader Mangosuthu Buthelezi to a meeting in Durban today to address differences over statements by its president, Julius Malema.

Provincial chairperson Mthandeni Dlungwana said the league had asked for the meeting to address the war of words between it and the IFP.

IFP deputy national spokesman Thulasizwe Buthelezi confirmed the invitation,

Malema made derogatory remarks about Buthelezi, after the IFP leader’s son, Tutu, joined the ANC in February.

“Last year, we went with Malema to Nongoma, and some of the statements were that we’ll recruit even from within Buthelezi’s family,” said Dlungwana.

Malema said the ANC would campaign in the IFP president’s back yard and called Buthelezi a “factory fault”. Dlungwana said the meeting is “not about apologies”, but to engage the parties. Malema is expected to attend.
