A suspect wanted in connection with several ATM bombings was shot dead by police.

Police spokesman Superintendent Jay Naicker said that on Thursday evening, members of the Durban Organised Crime Unit went to arrest Fukani Zwane of kwaMashu in connection with six ATM bombings.

“Zwane was in his driveway when he spotted the police. He immediately opened fire … ” said Naicker.

Police retaliated and shot Zwane. He died at the scene.

Naicker said Zwane was found with a Z88 pistol with the serial numbers filed off.

On further investigation, they found two gel explosives at his home.
