Accidents: Three dead, eight injured

2012-07-10 00:00

TWO serious accidents in and around Pietermaritzburg have left three people dead and eight others in hospital.

Around 8 pm on Saturday, a BMW hit a tree next to the Greytown road, ejecting two of the four occupants of the vehicle.

ER24’s Vanessa Jackson said the two men, in their 30s, were declared dead after initial assessments revealed no signs of life.

“The two surviving passengers were found inside the wreck, with paramedics being surprised that anyone had come out of the accident alive with the amount of damage to the car. It appeared that the car had been folded in half. They they then removed the two men and started their treatment. They were taken to a nearby hospital in a stable condition.”

Police spokesperson Captain Thulani Zwane said police are investigating a case of culpable homicide.

In another incident, a bakkie and VW Polo collided head-on on the Bishopstowe road around 1.30 am, killing one passenger in the Polo.

Jackson said the occupants in the Polo were returning from a funeral in Durban.
