Action or comedy to choose from

2010-08-20 00:00

WHETHER you fancy all-out action or having your funny bone tickled, this weekend’s movies are sure to hit the mark.

Opening in Pietermaritzburg today is South African actor Sharlto Copley’s (District 9) new film, The A-Team, in which he plays “Howling Mad” Murdock alongside Liam Neeson (Taken) as Hannibal Smith, Bradley Cooper (The Hangover) as Templeton “Face” Peck, and mixed martial artist Quinton “Rampage” Jackson as BA Baracus.

In this remake of the popular eighties television series, the men play four American soldiers tasked with recovering plates for printing $100 bills, used to print a billion dollars in Iraq.

After doing the job and returning to the base, their commanding officer is killed in an explosion and the plates are stolen. As a result, the soldiers are court martialled and sent to different prisons.

Six months later, Smith is visited by a CIA agent, who reveals that he knows where the man who took the plates is and wants Smith and his men to recover them.

Also opening today is Furry Vengeance starring Brendan Fraser (The Mummy) and Brooke Shields (Lipstick Jungle).

In this family comedy with a message, greedy developers try to pave over paradise and unwittingly launch a side-splitting battle between humans and nature. And anyone who doesn’t learn that “green” isn’t just the colour of money might just end up as road kill.
