Adventure racing, midmar mile entries at cascades

2011-09-07 00:00

THE Moffatt Cascades Adventure Challenge is a fun event for pairs of athletes running a trail or on mountain bikes. Teams use simple navigation on a provided map to reach and check off 20 checkpoints within three hours. There is also a fun “roadblock” challenge, involving a monster, to tax their skills.

Much like television’s The Amazing Race, the challenge is aimed at the outdoor enthusiasts and adventure racers. Whether you are young or old, fit or unfit, the race is structured so you can compete against yourself and others safely and without pressure — and you’ll all finish together.

The race starts at 9 am on Sunday and finishes at noon. For late entries, be at the back car park at Cascades at 8 am. Information and entry details are at www.arkzn.co.za or www.roag.co.za.

The event is for all levels of skill and fitness, so bring the family, friends, kids and grandparents for a fun day at Cascades.

The categories for bikes and running teams are: Rugrats U13, Laaities 14-15, Dudes 16-18, Rats and Mice 19 +, Family (father/mother, parent/kid, brother/sister)

The opening of the entries for the 39th aQuelle Midmar Mile will take the form of a joint family fitness and fun day at its new registration and late entry venue for 2012.

The first 100 swimmers to enter can win prizes through one of their new sponsors, Sportsman’s Warehouse, who will host the Midmar Mile registration at the Cascades Centre next year.

The first 100 U12 kids who enter will receive a Spur Bravery Award with a free meal.

For rugby supporters the Midmar Mile organisers will show Sunday’s South Africa versus Wales Rugby World Cup match live at 10.30 am on a four-by-three-metre outdoor TV screen with full sound in the main marquee, courtesy of sponsors aQuelle. — Witness Reporter.
