After crash, paramedics administer oxygen, rush pup to vet in ambulance

A BORDER Collie pup was resuscitated and rushed by ambulance to the SPCA yesterday afternoon, after it was involved in a car accident on its way to its new home.

Its new owners, the Naidoo family, were travelling from Durban to Pietermaritzburg when the accident occurred in the Lion Park area.

ER24 paramedics who attended the accident scene saw that the eight-week old pup was faring poorly.

They decided to take it by ambulance to the SPCA while administering oxygen.

Paramedic Andrew Rogers said the fluffy pup was lying still after its ordeal, barely breathing.

“After the woman who was injured was treated and taken to hospital, we decided to resuscitate the puppy because a life is a life, be it human or animal,” said Rogers.

The SPCA’s Maureen Vida said the dog had not sustained any injuries in the accident but was “rather shaken and very trembly”. It is expected to make a good recovery thanks to the efforts of the caring paramedics.

The Naidoo family were not available for comment.
