Agent on the run and spoofing vampires

2010-09-03 00:00

ACTION thriller, Salt, and Twlight-spoof, Vampires Suck, are the two new films opening in Pietermaritzburg this weekend.

Angelina Jolie takes a break from being a mum of six and United Nations goodwill ambassador to play dedicated CIA officer Evelyn Salt, who is accused of being a Russian spy by a defector. Salt goes on the run, using all her skills and years of experience as a covert operative to elude capture, but her efforts to prove her innocence only serve to cast doubt on her motives.

Twilight fans, meanwhile, should probably not watch Jason Friedberg and Aaron Seltzer’s (Scary Movie, Date Movie and Meet the Spartans) take on the vampire and werewolf films.

Their story is set in Sporks, Washington, and centres around Becca Crane (Jenn Proske), an anti-social loner, who encounters the mysterious Sullen family — vampires who have learnt to live the equivalent of a vegetarian lifestyle — and falls in love with Edward Sullen (Matt Lanter). Becca also gets noticed by Jacob White (Chris Riggi), who starts undergoing a strange transformation of his own.
