Aids orphans project gets under way in France

2010-02-01 00:00

FRANCE, a community on the outskirts of Pietermaritzburg, faces many challenges in the way of poverty and unemployment, as well as many Aids-orphaned children who are forced to fend for themselves.

Reach Out Foundation has been working in France for the past eight years.

It has actively supported children and young women who find themselves in vulnerable situations.

Liberty Midlands Mall adopted the charity in 2008 and, in doing so committed to raising funds for the needs of this community.

On December 3, Liberty Properties announced a donation of R2,4 million towards the development of a state-of-the-art community drop-in centre.

The project was delayed by the recent inclement weather, but has now resumed. The ground has been levelled, platforms have been completed and excavation is well under way.

The community drop-in centre will comprise a community room, a reception area, a social worker’s office, a child advocacy office, a laundry room, kitchen, toilets and a clinic.

There are a number of generous sponsors who have come on board to assist in building the France drop-in centre. They are Grinaker-LTA, Quad Africa, Bentels Associates International, Crane Registered Quantity Surveyors, RPP Consulting Engineers, AKI Consulting, Building Code Consultants, GHC Africa, The Witness, Benny Bongers Land Surveyors and C&M Safety Consultants and Southern Sun.

However, because of the nature of the project and the extreme need of the community, Liberty Midlands Mall is appealing for more sponsors. If you are interested in becoming involved in this very worthwhile project, get in touch with Minoli Chetty at Liberty Midlands Mall at 033 341 9570.
