Ajax fume at PSL’s decision to once again postpone clash with Pirates

CAPE TOWN — Ajax Cape Town executive director Ari Efstathiou has slated the Premier Soccer League’s (PSL) decision to once again postpone the clash against Orlando Pirates, which has now been rescheduled for a third time.

According to the Football411 website, the Urban Warriors were initially down to lock horns with the Buccaneers at the Cape Town Stadium on August 17, but the latter’s involvement in the Confederation of African Football (CAF) Champions League saw the tie pushed back by 72 hours.

The match was then postponed again after Pirates progressed to the MTN8 semi-finals, where they will meet Soweto rivals Kaizer Chiefs tomorrow, with Ajax then being told August 27 had been set aside for the game against the Sea Robbers.

However, the last straw saw the PSL once more scrap the date, this time indefinitely, leaving Efstathiou furious with South Africa’s top-flight body.

“It’s extremely disappointing to find ourselves in this situation. We are a professional club playing in a professional league,” he said in an official club statement.

“We invest time and resources to ensure that we honour our fixtures in a professional and efficient manner, and cannot allow situations like what has transpired to continue.”
