Albie in 20/20 limbo

2008-09-23 00:00

JOHANNESBURG — Albie Morkel finds himself in limbo as far as the Champions League Cricket tournament in early December is concerned.

This star all-rounder of the South African team said on Monday evening that he still doesn’t know if he will be playing for the Chennai Super Kings or for the Titans in this Twenty20 tournament. “This uncertainty is frustrating,” he said.

Cricket South Africa CEO Gerald Majola believes Morkel will, in fact, end up having to play for Chennai. “Players contracted to teams of the Indian Premier League have to play for them.” The Titans apparently want to dig in their heels. They believe Morkel was made available to Chennai on the understanding that the Titans have first call on his services.

Morkel said it is a difficult situation for him. He hopes he will ultimately be able to decide for himself. — News24.
