Alex Park likely to be fixed in time

CO-OPERATION from unexpected quarters will likely see Alexandra Park tidied up in time for Cars in the Park, which starts in two weeks.

The annual vintage vehicle show will be followed by the Comrades Marathon in June, when the eyes of the world will be on the city.

Yesterday, Msunduzi’s executive committee gave the go-ahead for the organisers of Cars in the Park to repair the broken palisade fences in the park in lieu of paying for the hire of the venue.

Profab Engineering, the company doing the repairs, played its part by dropping its price. The fee to hire the mayor’s garden, play park and Forsyth Grounds amounts to R6 254, while the original quote for the repairs was R26 300. Profab agreed to drop its fee to R18 500 and Cars in the Park agreed to pick up the tab.

Mayor Chris Ndlela urged Exco members not to miss Cars in the Park. He had attended it once before, he said, and the vintage cars, shining like new, were a beautiful sight.

Ndlela told community services portfolio committee chairperson Manilall Inderjith to write a thank-you letter to Cars in the Park organiser Fred Rascher and his team as soon as possible. Inderjith said Rascher and his team had also agreed to fix the ablution blocks at the Oval in the park. Ndlela said the letter should be sent urgently.
