Amajita: Last 16 spot up for grabs tonight

2009-09-30 00:00

AMAJITA could almost seal a place in the last 16 of the Fifa U20 World Cup in Egypt if they can beat Hungary in their second Group F match at Alexandria Stadium tonight.

Having blown a two-goal lead with 10 men in their opener against UAE, to concede two goals in injury time and draw 2-2, the South Africans will be looking for greater application tonight against their European opponents.

Hungary opened their tournament with a 3-0 defeat to Honduras and will be desperate for a victory.

The dangerman for South Africa is Excelsior Feyenoord striker Kermit Erasmus, who scored both the SA U20s’ goals against UAE.

“We can’t afford to lose our confidence — after all, we were ahead against the Asian champions until we had a man sent off,” said South Africa coach Serame Letsoaka.

“It’s my job to plug the gaps in my team and set out our stall against Hungary.”

The Amajita coach will be without suspended defender Ramahlwe Mphahlele, who was red-carded in the 80th minute against UAE.
