Amakhosi trio to miss Bafana trip

2014-05-20 00:00

CAPE TOWN — Bafana Bafana coach Gordon Igesund has confirmed that he will be without captain Itumeleng Khune, Bernard Parker and Simphiwe Tshabalala when they travel to Australia and New Zealand next week.

The Soccer Laduma website reports that the Kaizer Chiefs trio will not travel with the national side to take on the World Cup-bound Socceroos, followed by a trip to Auckland to face the All Whites.

Parker is said to be nursing a knee injury, while it is not clear what the reason is for Khune and Tshabalala’s absence, however, Chiefs’ medical staff confirmed that all three players are set to undergo surgery for their respective injuries.

Meanwhile, the PSL’s man-of-the-moment, Sibusiso Vilakazi, has been called up to Bafana’s training squad, but Igesund says he will not be joining the squad for the tour as he too will be recovering from a long-term injury.

Bafana will take on Australia at the ANZ Stadium in Sydney on May 26, at 11.30 am SA time, before meeting New Zealand at the Smart Stadium in Auckland on May 30, at 9.30 am SA time.
