ANGRY farmers passed insults at two men accused of killing Eston sugar cane farmer Micky Hampson at the Richmond Magistrate’s Court yesterday.

Siboniso Michael Mtolo (28) and Jabulani “Mjay” Ngobese (27) appeared in a court packed with local farmers for the murder and robbery with aggravating circumstance of Hampson on September 27.

Hampson was driving on the farm with his son Murray, when they were confronted by two men who had allegedly trespassed on their land.

The men were both represented by Legal Aid. Mtolo was arrested after informers tipped police off that he was leaving the province to go to Johannesburg.

He was arrested at Montrose on Van Reenen’s Pass, while the second suspect was arrested in kwaMkhutha, south of Durban.

Murray told The Witness that the family was happy the suspects had been arrested.

“It doesn’t bring him back to us. It doesn’t make it right what they did. We would like to see the law take its course.”

He thanked the team of investigators who managed to track the suspects.

Chairperson of Eston Mid-Illovo farm watch Peter Stainbank said they are pleased with the efforts of the investigation team and the support for Hampson’s family shown by the farmers.

“We feel safe now that they have been arrested,” said Stainbank.

Magistrate Thamsanqa Cele remanded the men in custody until November 6 for a formal bail application.

Meanwhile, at the Himeville Magistrate’s Court, three men, Tsepiso Sthembiso Ramanyane (20), Bonginkosi Eric Nyawose (33), both from Bulwer, and Thabo Dlamini (22) from Himeville, appeared for the murder of timber contractor Daniel Knight.

They were also remanded in custody until November 6 for a formal bail application.
