Annual awards: Amafa calls for nominations

2012-07-06 00:00

AMAFA, the provincial heritage agency tasked with protecting buildings, archaeology, rock art and places of historical and cultural significance, has called for nominations for its annual awards to individuals and organisations that have voluntarily helped preserve the province’s heritage.

The body has made 60 such awards since 2003, with recipients ranging from academics to historical associations and traditional authorities.

“Across the province there are people and organisations working with Amafa to protect what has become a major tourism drawcard,” said Barry Marshall, chief executive of Amafa.

The awards will be presented in Pietermaritzburg on September 21. Nominees should have spent some time in their field and their projects must be based in KZN. They can include site restoration and promoting public awareness.

Nominations should be clearly marked as such and sent by August 31 to Lindiwe Msomi, PO Box 2685, Pietermaritzburg 3200 or 195 Langalibalele Street, Pietermaritzburg 3201. Phone 033 394 6543 or e-mail: lindim@amafapmb.co.za
