Another Airlink plane delayed

2007-12-12 00:00

RECURRING delays and cancelled flights on the Johannesburg-Pietermaritzburg route are becoming a concern for travellers and prospective travellers.

SA Airlink’s flight SA 8737, scheduled to leave at 2 pm, was delayed yesterday after the plane failed to take off at the O.R. Tambo airport.

A passenger on the plane, Christine Webb, said the plane sounded like it was losing power when it was about to take off. “We were taxiing down the runway when there was a funny noise and it sounded like the plane was losing power.”

She sent an SMS to her husband George to inform him of the delay.

“This is getting beyond a joke. I did not want to tell my wife about the recent incidents of delayed flights and planes being grounded. She has been away in the UK and I did not want to scare her about all this,” said George Webb.

SA Airlink spokeswoman Karin Murray said the plane was grounded due to a technical problem.

Christine Webb eventually arrived in Pietermaritzburg, and said she was pleased with the service after the initial hiccups.

Murray said a detailed statement will be released later today about SA Airlink’s plans to address the problems.
