Appeal dismissed for six

2012-11-16 00:00

THE Ramsgate high court has dismissed applications from six men, who carried out a pension heist at Hibberdene in 2007, to appeal against their conviction and sentences.

Andile Bam, Khehla Themba Mhlongo, Mlungisi Nxumalo, Duncan Mduduzi Ngubane, Peterson Mthetheleli Koli and Ayanda Doyisa were found guilty of 28 charges, including five murders, theft, robbery with aggravating circumstances, attempted murder, unlawful possession of firearms and ammunition, and malicious damage to property.

Yesterday, the men argued that another court could arrive at a different verdict.

Judge Johan Ploos van Amstel, however, denied the application.

“The conviction and sentence is proper … I am satisfied that no court will come to another conclusion,” he said.

The men were each sentenced to lengthy terms behind bars.

The total included three life terms each for murder, 15 years each for each count of robbery with aggravating circumstances, 12 years each for each count of attempted murder, and 15 years each for each count of illegal possession of firearms.

The sentences will run concurrently with the life sentences.
