Appointment: New GM for Zulu newspaper

2009-03-17 00:00

An accomplished marketing professional with a flair for creativity, Mlamuli Nxele, has been appointed general manager at Ilanga newspaper.

Nxele, who was born and bred in Pietermaritzburg — at Mafunze in Elandskop — will assume his duties in August.

Nxele is excited about his move to Ilanga, KZN’s historic Zulu language newspaper.

“Ilanga is an isiZulu newspaper with strong cultural links. I want to help make the paper even more competitive in terms of its revenue share.

“This is also dependent on readership growth. There is no question of its strength as a brand. It’s about further unlocking its commercial strengths,” he said.

Nxele is marketing manager at Ukhozi FM and has accumulated a wealth of experience at major companies such as Unilever, Hulamin and Amalgamated Beverage Industries.

He has also worked in the advertising industry.

Nxele, who holds a BCom in Marketing, attended Langalakhe High School and completed his secondary schooling at Alexandra High.

He is passionate about Zulu culture, music and creativity.

He will spend the next few months consulting for the SA Traditional Music Awards.
