Arrest: mother dead, stokvel money stolen

2010-12-13 00:00

A 34-YEAR-OLD Sweetwaters mother is believed to have been raped, murdered and robbed of R4 000 received from a stokvel while her children, aged one and four years, were asleep in an adjoining room at the weekend.

A suspect has been arrested.

Warrant Officer Joey Jeevan said the body of the victim, Bongikile Ngcobo of Mbabane area, was found in the early hours of Saturday by her sister, Cindy, who lives next door.

She had gone to wake her up and found her sister’s body lying across the bed partially clothed.

The two women had planned to go shopping on Saturday with the stokvel money.

Although there were no visible injuries on the body, police are investigating the possibility that the victim was raped and strangled.

“A post-mortem will be held to determine the exact cause of death and whether any rape took place,” said Jeevan.

She said that within hours of the discovery of the murder, police received a tip-off . They arrested a 35-year-old suspect and recovered close to R2 000 cash.

“More arrests are imminent,” said Jeevan.
