Arrows: general manager calls it quits

2011-04-01 00:00

HARDLY two weeks after ringing changes in their coaching department, Lamontville Golden Arrows are set to appoint a new general manager after Gugu Marawa tendered her resignation with effect from today, writes LINDA XIMBA.

Marawa’s departure follows hot on the heels of Serbian Zoran Fillipovic, who was fired after a string of poor results and was replaced by German Ernst Middendorp, who was relieved of his duties by Maritzburg United for the same reason.

Marawa, who refused to divulge reasons for her departure, said: “I wish to thank the president, the players and the staff who gave me a warm welcome when I joined the club. It is sad for me to leave a club that has become close to my heart …”

Abafana Besithende boss Mato Madlala said she was saddened by Marawa’s resignation.

“I have known Gugu for a long time and we worked well together. She now believes that it is time for her to explore new challenges and we understand that. We will not stand in her way … We are glad that she has availed her assistance should we need it,” said Madlala.

Marawa joined the Durban club at the beginning of the season.
