Arson: Lodge employee left fighting for her life

2008-11-24 00:00

A Durban woman is fighting for her life after being severely burnt in an apparent arson attack.

Emergency services rushed to a Point Road lodge where they found the woman rolling about the floor as she tried to extinguish the flames.

It is believed that the woman worked in the lodge and had earlier had an argument with a guest staying there. Eyewitnesses told firefighters that they saw the victim and a man having an argument before the fire started.

eThekwini fire divisional commander Melvin Ramlall said the woman was badly burnt and so traumatised that she could not give them a statement. Petrol was used in the blaze. She was taken to Addington Hospital where she is in a serious condition.

A case of arson has been opened.
