Arthur: Oz bowlers best

2013-06-22 00:00

CAPE TOWN — Australia coach Mickey Arthur has claimed his side boast the best bowling attack in the world as they prepare for the Ashes in England.

Arthur said his largely unproven collection of bowlers are superior both to England’s attack and that of South Africa — the number one Test team in world cricket.

“I honestly believe we can win the Ashes. We have the best all-round bowling attack in world cricket,” the former Proteas coach said.

“I’m talking depth wise,” he said in a BBC interview. “If we pick up an injury, we have got somebody who can be just as effective.

“When South Africa put England under pressure last year for extended periods, we saw cracks develop. That is our challenge, to put them under pressure for those periods.”

Arthur will be going into the Ashes under immense pressure, with his side having lost their most recent Test series 4-0 to India in March, and also failing to progress past the group stages of the one-day ICC Champions Trophy event currently on the go.

The first of five Ashes Tests starts at Trent Bridge in Nottingham on July 10.
