Artist death accused still in custody

2014-01-10 00:00

THE four men accused of murdering renowned artist Clinton de Menezes (43) will remain in custody until an identity parade has been completed.

The Pinetown Magistrate’s Court postponed the suspects’ bail application to January 17.

Siyabonga Khoza (23) from KwaDabeka, Bongani Makhathini (25) from Claremont, Ntokozo Langa (28) from Dalton Men’s Hostel and Lungani Ngidi (19) from Richards Bay will remain in custody.

In the early hours of December 31, the suspects allegedly robbed a home on Waterfall Avenue, Westville.

In the shooting that followed, De Menezes was fatally wounded in the heart.

De Menezes, a former Durban resident who lived between London and Nairobi, Kenya, with his wife and daughter, was on holiday in Durban to visit family and friends when the attack happened.

The men were arrested hours later through a joint operation, in a metered cab passing the Pavilion. They were found in possession of a firearm, a fake gun and the alleged stolen property.
