Aryan Benevolent Home celebrations

2009-07-28 00:00

THE annual Vodacom Aryan Benevolent Home Chatsworth Fair will commemorate its 21st anniversary with bands, comedians, dancers, and around 150 stalls, from tomorrow until August 2 at the circus site at Chatsworth’s Arena Park.

The popular uncles, Peru and Bala, will be featuring as part of the comedy line-up, while Rajiv Mothie and his dance troupe, together with Vishnu Entertainers, will have the crowds on their feet on Friday night.

Dancers from Tharana Productions, and a Bollywood dance extravaganza featuring four dance schools, will headline the Saturday night entertainment, while the Sunday evening entertainment will feature Indian Idols’ Rahul Saxeni and Jankee Parekh, a dance troupe from India and the bands Flash Entertainers and Young Orientals.

The event will also have an educational component, the Edu-Fair, which is designed to create interest among pupils. It will include displays from the Department of Transport, the SAPS, the SA Weather Services, and the KwaZulu-Natal Sharks Board.

The fair is held as the primary annual fundraiser for the Aryan Benevolent Home, which first helped homeless people in 1921.

It now assists more than 1 000 people and provides services such as institutional care for the aged and disabled, children and youth in need, and respite care to victims of domestic violence and disasters.
