Ashley FC string the passes together

2014-02-27 00:00

ASHLEY Football Club have started pre-season training and besides working on fitness, the players are participating in the Misty Hills Tournament, hosted by Highway United and Forest Hills.

Highway United, New Germany Old Boys, Ashley and FC Burrough play in the tournament, which to date has seen Highway beat Old Boys 7-0 and Ashley look constructive in a 3-0 win over Burrough.

Having concentrated on fitness for the past two months, Ashley had the juice in the tank to come on strongly against Burrough in the final 15 minutes and the result was pleasing for a team that had not previously played together.

Some good football was played once the lads had settled, with the ball being knocked around, the only aspect concerning coach Sebastian Olejniczak being the lack of one-two passes and the defence sitting a little deep.

Duane Smith and Torsten Fehsenfeld were the stand-outs on the field with their tireless work, but the man of the match and scorer of a cracking goal was Cliffy Govender. Dave Wessels and Ashley Isaacs were the other goal scorers.

Ashley’s next match in the tournament is against Highway United, while the first friendly is on Sunday, March 2, at Ashley, starting at 9 am.
