Awards: Scoop for gospel radio

2012-04-18 00:00

IKHWEZI FM, a Christian community radio station in Kwamaphulo, won four awards at the MTN Radio Awards.

The awards, which are aimed at promoting excellence in radio, were held at the Sandton Convention Centre on Saturday.

It was the station’s first big win. Presenter Nothile Zwane told The Witness: “We are all very happy about this, especially because we haven’t won anything in a while.”

Ikhwezi FM entered in nine categories, competing against other community radio stations around the country.

“Winning four awards shows that our station is growing and our listenership will grow because of this.”

The station broadcasts in English, Afrikaans, Zulu and German.

“We are the first community radio station to do this and we cater for different people.

“We also help people to deal with their problems and they find healing in our music,” she said.

Ikhwezi has employed a number of talented people who have gone to work on TV and national radio stations.
