Baby found buried, teenage mother disappears

2011-10-07 00:00

THE decomposed body of a nine-month-old baby boy was found near a stream in Bulwer on Wednesday.

The body was discovered by a man who was walking past the stream and called the police.

Provincial police spokesperson Captain Thulani Zwane said that due to the advanced stage of decomposition no injuries to the body could be found.

Zwane said the baby was last seen with his 15-year-old mother on September 20.

Later that day the baby went missing. It was discovered that the mother had left home.

The girl’s sister said the teenager was in a hurry when she saw her that day.

“She was walking past my work place in the area and I asked her where the baby was.

“She got irritated and left in a hurry, saying that she had left him with the neighbours.

“We haven’t heard of her since that day. Later at home I discovered that the baby was nowhere to be found.

“The neighbours said she had taken him with her,” said the woman.

A post mortem will be held to determine the cause of death. Police said an arrest is imminent.
