A 25-YEAR-OLD woman charged with kidnapping a baby boy yesterday turned her face away from photographers and covered it with her hands when she appeared briefly in the Pietermaritzburg Magistrate’s Court.

Nokulunga Patience Mzila, of Nhlazatshe area, is charged in connection with the incident where baby Olwethu was snatched from his mother, Nonhlanhla Madlala, while she was filling in forms to apply for a birth certificate on April 14.

This week The Witness reported that Olwethu was returned to his overjoyed parents — Madlala and Sphiwe Mphemba — after Madlala spotted him in the arms of a woman at Edendale Mall.

Mzila was not asked to plead.

The court was told that the state is opposed to release on bail.

The case was adjourned to June 12 pending further investigations.
