Bad day: Taxi crash injures pregnant teen

2012-11-29 00:00

A PREGNANT teen from Inanda was badly injured when the taxi she was in, crashed into a lorry on Chris Hani Road in Durban yesterday morning.

Several other people, including a six-year-old child, suffered bruises and cuts. The taxi driver sat on the side of the road, looking dazed.

The father-in-law of the five-months pregnant teenager, who cannot be identified because she is 16, said she was going to visit the father of her unborn baby at Westville prison. “We were going to visit my son in jail. If I had known this would happen to her I would not have taken her. Just look at how she is hurt,” he cried.

Meanwhile, taxi driver Hlonipheni Mdada said: “I am heartbroken, things are bad. I’m really sorry. I have been driving taxis since 2009 and I can’t do another job. This is the only one I know,” he said.

Contacted later, the father-in-law said mother and foetus were fine. He said the impact had flayed both the girl’s shins to the bone. Her wounds had been stitched and she was sent home.
