Bailout: Cosatu demands details

2011-10-14 00:00

THE Congress of South African Trade Unions in KZN has called for more details before considering support for the plea for a R900 million cash injection into Msunduzi Municipality.

Secretary Zet Luzipho said that while the labour federation is not opposed to the plea, it believes that more should be known about the turn-around strategy.

“We will arrange a meeting with the leadership of this municipality to check on the progress made so far and see whether there is basis for the request of the financial injection,” Luzipho said in a statement.

The Witness reported on Wednesday that the municipality has requested the money from national departments to upgrade its ageing electricity infrastructure and to protect electricity revenue.

Electricity manager Maxwell Mthembu told the infrastructure portfolio committee that R10 million has already been approved from the municipal infrastructure grant.
