Banned: Strikers not to get close

2011-08-19 00:00

THE Msunduzi Municipality was yesterday granted an interdict restraining strikers from interfering with any Msunduzi employees or interfering with the municipality’s operations.

The union is also ordered to stop its members who work with essential services from taking part in the strike. The interdict orders striking workers not to damage property or assets of the municipality and bans them from approaching within a hundred metres of entrances to any municipal premises.

Acting municipal manager Thokozani Maseko cited water cuts by strikers in applying for the interdict.

RUBBISH remains uncollected in many areas in the city. Residents in areas such as Bisley, Scottsville, Cleland, Napierville, CBD, Prestbury and Northdale had their rubbish uncollected by yesterday afternoon.

Msunduzi Municipality spokesperson Brian Zuma asked residents who can, to take their rubbish to the New England landfill site, as the landfill is unaffected by the strike.

He said intimidation of the staff at the crematorium forced the facility to close for the entire day yesterday. Anyone who requires the services of the crematorium must phone the municipality, who will get police to provide security for the staff working there, he said.
